I made the decision to go abroad for one year because I want to improve my English skills and learn about the Britain way of life. For those who dont know it I am at Torquay right now, it is a beautiful town near Exeter or Plymouth in the South-West of England.
Let me tell you about my first day and first impression here :)
First three days
It was hard to say goodbye to my family and friends, some of you even brought me to the airport :)
My flight to London Heathrow was about one hour long but the flight was delayed by one hour... I had the chance to met new people during the waiting time. I knew that I had to be open so I started a conversation with other guys from iSt. They were all very kind and friendly and after some smalltalk I found out that one of them called Jonas is going to the same town as I do. We were sitting on very different places in the airplane, I even got a seat in the business class while Jonas had to move to economy class. After the flight I got very early out of the plane because I was in busniness class. My luggage were also comming very soon after I arrived at the airport. I went outside and my coordinator was already waiting for me. Sadly I didnt find Jonas during that time. I used to know more friendly people from Germany. We all had to wait more than 4 hours until our bus came. It was horrible but luckily Jonas joined me after some time... I thought that our hostfamily would pick us from the airport but we still had to travel by bus for more than 4 hours.. During that time Armin and me got into some smalltalk and we became friends. At 23 o clock I finally met my hostmother in Torquay. It was a very stressful day but I was very happy as I saw the beautiful town. I talked to my hostmother during a snack and she guided me around the house. My room is quite big and I have a beautiful view in the evening to the town because I am living on a hilly house :3
My hostbrother was already sleeping because he had a very long journey from China to Torquay. He is from Macao. I went sleeping very early about 0 o clock because I was very tired and exhausted..
At the second day I woke up very early... Way to early in my opinion.. My hostbrother Jimmy was also awake and we had a little small talk in English. I asked him if he could speak Mandarin but he refused.. I was a bit sad but after some more smalltalk it turns out as a misunderstanding and he actually can speak Mandarin :D
So now we are talking Mandarin because I have to improve my Mandarin skills as well.
Anyway in the afternoon I met my new friends Jonas and Armin, both from Germany in town and we discovered some nice places. The town was very crowded. I didnt expected so much people on a Sunday in the center. Maybe its just because the shops here are even open at Sundays. I went to the towncenter by bus and was shaken all the time... Torquay is actually a very hilly city. There are many exchange students here now, I saw a group of Spanish people and even a big Chinese group here. Jonas, Armin and me were checking all the shops here because we were searching for a cheap prepaidcard for our cellphones xD We searched like 3 hours and finally found one.
After that I had to go back for dinner. My hostmother cooked a traditional English Sunday meal with chicken and vegetables... It was sooo delicious... Why am I now hungry... x_x
I learned more about my Chinese brother and also about my hostmother. In the evening I had nothing to do but to chat with all my friends and stuff like that :) These two days were quite stressful for me because everything is new for me but after a few weeks I will get used to it... I went sleeping late this night.. I think about 3 o clock because I was busy chatting and planing what to do tomorrow..
The third day went also very well I met Jonas and Armin again we were at the harbour and we enjoyed the weather. It was very sunny and warm. I bought many postcards for those who wanted one and also some nice soveniers. Chatting with friends was also in the program. At dinner I had a very tasty steak with some nice vegetables... Yeah you heard right.. I ate vegetables :D
In two days the school starts here and I will tell you then about my first school day :D
I hope you enjoyed my writing, sorry about the mistakes leave a comment and see you next time :)

Sounds like Torquay is a pretty nice little place! Hopefully it won't get boring too fast!
AntwortenLöschenI'd really like to try you hostmom's food right now!!
I'm sure you'll make loads of more friends over there and improve your English and Mandarin!
Good luck,
Laurence :)
Whoa, I bet Business Class was like heaven compared to normal Economic Class. The harbour reminds me pretty much of London because of that big Ferris Wheel.
AntwortenLöschenNice text, keep it going! However, you still need to improve grammar spelling ( Anyway, I'll pretend I didn't notice any.)
Greetings from the Saltwater Sea,
duh Fishking
